Alice Delores Hamilton Scholarship

The Alice Hamilton Scholarship was established to honor a graduating Overbrook High School senior who displays entrepreneurial spirit and leadership qualities at school or in the community. The recipient must be a multi-talented individual who demonstrates a desire to help others. Successful applicants must have attained at least a cumulative 2.0-grade point average on a 4.00 scale.

Class of 1958 Scholarship

This is a multifaceted Book Scholarship to financially assist students to cover the cost of books, required fees, and necessary materials for classes. The scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors entering a college/university or trade school. Successful applicants must have attained at least a cumulative 2.0-grade point average on a 4.00 scale.

Harry Powers Student-Athlete Award

Overbrook High School Hall of Fame inductee Dr. Michael Kaback class of 1955 established a scholarship in honor of his friend Harry Powers who was a tremendous student and athlete. He played for Overbrook from 1952-1955 he was a great short-stop in baseball and a star at the end position in football and his pass receiving record still stands today.

The recipient must be a senior class member of a Varsity team, male or female, with a grade point average of 3.0 or above.

Overbrook High School Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship

The Legacy Scholarship is open to eligible seniors whose parent or legal guardian obtained a diploma from Overbrook High School and participated in an extra curricula activity. The student must reside in the West Philadelphia area and is active in an Overbrook High School extra-curricula activity with a grade point average of 2.5 or above entering a college/university or trade school.

The Sam Cozen Scholarship

This scholarship pays homage to Sam Cozen who is well known for coaching numerous winning basketball teams. He was a teacher and mentor at the Castle on the Hill. He spent his entire life helping young men build character and strengthen moral codes by which to live. Qualifications for this scholarship are a well-rounded athlete, evidence of getting along well with other people in addition to possessing drive, determination, and a GPA of 2.0.

The James P. “Blinky” Brown, Sr. Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2010 by the Overbrook High School classes of the 1970s. It honors the memory of Mr. Brown who was a former OHS student/athlete, OHS teacher, OHS vice-principal, disciplinarian, coach, mentor, and friend to the OHS community for many years.

Students who wish to apply for the scholarship should have a 2.5 GPA, complete an application, and provide two recommendations. Student-athletes are encouraged to apply.

The Allen Weinberg Scholarship

This scholarship honors a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Overbrook High School Alumni Association. Allen was inducted into the Hall of Fame along with his 1954 championship basketball team. He also served as the alumni “historian.”  Allen worked tirelessly as a board member supporting Overbrook students for over 25 years. Students who wish to apply for this scholarship must have attained a 2.5-grade point average on a 4.00 scale.  

Class of 75 Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor a student who has displayed excellent effort in all academic areas. The scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to a graduating senior who continues to put forth effort despite difficulties encountered. The recipient of this scholarship must have a GPA of 2.0 or above based on a 4.00 scale.

Class of 71 Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor a student who has excelled despite hardships. This scholarship is designed to support a graduating senior who is pursuing an accredited post-secondary opportunity. The recipient of this scholarship must have a GPA of 2.0 or above based on a 4.00 scale.

Class of 55 Scholarship 

This scholarship was established to honor a student who has overcome adversity and was able to succeed with hard work and due diligence. The recipient of this scholarship must have a GPA of 2.0 or above based on a 4.0 scale.

 Hurtig Family Scholarship

The Hurtig is a family scholarship that provides scholarship opportunities to students who have overcome some adversity in their lives. This recipient must pursue a career in health or education. The requirement is a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
